We, citizens, inhabitants of Villeurbanne and dog owners, are faced with the lack of spaces dedicated to our companions. The collective “La truffe au vent” brings together more and more owners of Villeurbannais dogs who are distraught in the face of the town hall’s lack of action on this subject.
Until now, tolerated in some city parks, we are now banned from a large number of public spaces and parks. The deployment of a team dedicated to civility in public spaces (formerly ASVP replaced by a private company) imposes access restrictions, bans and verbalizations on us. We are therefore faced with an exasperating situation for the masters and detrimental to the balance of our pets without any solution being proposed by the town hall of Villeurbanne.
In view of these elements, we ask the Town Hall of Villeurbanne to create play areas for dogs, with a minimum surface area of 1000 m2 (to avoid overcrowding, the risk of fights between dogs as well as premature wear and tear facilities) in all areas of the city.
Many towns today can be described as “Dog Frendly” towns, such as Montpellier, Nice, Bordeaux, Rennes… Villeurbanne is now far from it, leaving a large part of its population aside: no waste bags, no quality space and canine freedom, no awareness of owners and residents on sharing public places and their cleanliness.
The only solutions provided to date require us to:
⁃ to take public transport at peak times by paying a ticket every day and several times a day
⁃ to use our vehicles (for those lucky enough to own one). The Metropolis of Lyon working tirelessly for “soft mode” travel, and the limitation of vehicles circulating in the city, this is a real paradox.
We are aware that dogs should be kept on a leash and that droppings should be picked up in public areas, but we need safe and pleasant green spaces that are adequate for dogs to exercise safely. and socialize with their peers.
We therefore hope that the Town Hall of Villeurbanne will take measures to create dog parks and / or make existing parks accessible to dogs on a leash while raising awareness of their masters and the population on the interest of “living together”. By sharing public space with our pets in a responsible and respectful way, we help strengthen social bonds in our community, promote conviviality and foster a life in harmony with our canine companions. We are convinced that this would improve the quality of life for all citizens of Villeurbanne. By providing suitable dog parks, this would encourage owners to reduce their use of the car to find green spaces away from the city, which would help promote a greener lifestyle. Finally, this space would encourage owners to use the space provided for the needs of their animal rather than the sidewalks of the city.
We suggest that each space reserved for dogs be equipped with suitable fences, waste bins, and water points. These parks would allow dog owners to meet, thus promoting the local community. Additionally, the health benefits of exercise for dogs are well established, which is also believed to reduce stress and behavioral issues associated with inactivity.
By signing this petition, we express our support for the creation of play areas for dogs in each district of Villeurbanne and ask the Town Hall to take into account our needs and those of our pets.
