At the moment, the SPA (Protective Society of Animals) of Etalondes (Seine-Maritime) welcomes 38 dogs and cats. All are waiting for a new family.
Head of the site, Isabelle Bovin, however, warns as summer approaches: “An adoption must be a thoughtful act. This should not be done on a whim. We have to wonder about the lifespan of the animal”.
And that’s not the only question to ask before taking care of a dog or a cat. “How long will the animal be alone? How much will his food cost? You also have to think about the future veterinary carethe organization during the holidays…”, continues the manager.
Holiday solutions
pet sitter, dog boarding, cat boarding, home care… The solutions exist, but sometimes you have to travel several kilometers before finding the perfect place for your faithful companion. And most importantly, get there early!
Before entrusting an animal, Isabelle Bovin therefore wants to make sure, with her team, that masters and animals will have happy days: “Each adoption must be successful and final. Sometimes people don’t understand that their way of life does not correspond to that of the animal”, confides the person in charge.
“We know our dogs well. We therefore try to direct adopters towards boarders who may be suitable for them, in terms of character and age,” she adds. She will not entrust, for example, a fiery puppy to a couple of octogenarians.
The goal: to avoid the return of the animal a few days after its adoption for incompatibility.
“People have to take responsibility and think that an animal may need time to adapt,” insists the manager.
They all have a past, sometimes painful! Some dogs have been mistreated, others have no bearings. In these cases, it is necessary to call on professionals, such as behaviorists or canine educators to re-socialize them and give a lot of love!
Adoption: how much does it cost?
For any adoption at the Etalondes SPA, a financial contribution is requested. It covers veterinary costs such as sterilization, identification, vaccination by electronic chip, care, tests… of the animal.
Adoption of a puppy under 6 months old: €360
Adopting a dog: €270
Adoption of an adult cat: €170 (tested for AIDS, leucosis, etc.)
Adoption of a kitten under 6 months old: €190 (tested for AIDS, leucosis, etc.)
Adopting a rabbit: €30
SOS adoption (animal over 8 years old): participation from €60.

donations for animals
As too often, the Etalondes refuge is almost full. The sad (and famous) summer wave of abandonments does not reassure the five employees of the SPA and the twenty volunteers.
To help the team cope, Isabelle Bovin invites people who wish to drop off duvet covers, boxes of pâté, treats, litter, cleaning products, laundry.
And for the educational part, rewards (like cervelas, Laughing Cow type cheeses, sausages…) are appreciated. “We avoid croquettes, because we prefer to use those made by our company”, explains Isabelle Bovin.
The Etalondes SPA is open every day (including public holidays), from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. except Tuesdays.
