Castiel was painful to see. Integrated into a shelter, this dog crossed with a wolf was paralyzed by fear. Every interaction with the volunteers seemed to frighten him, but they found a way to bring him out of his shell.
Hard to know what happened Castiel before being rescued. But the hybrid wolf, or wolf dog, has retained traumas from its past life. Very fearful and withdrawn, he did not trust humans. Her rescuers nevertheless perceived her beautiful soul and gave her access to a better life. A story told by The Dodo.
Volunteers supported Castiel as he wandered through an American suburb in Los Angeles. It did not have a microchip, but the benefactors could not attest with certainty that it had not had an owner in the past. What was certain was that he had spent several days on the street. His condition could attest to that. He was very skinny, covered in external parasites and had scabies.

A risk of euthanasia
What also worried the volunteers was that Castiel was a dog crossed with a wolf. Although these hybrid species have been domesticated over time, their keeping is subject to very strict regulations. A prefectural authorization, in particular, is necessary. As a result, placed in a shelter that would not have the skills or the rights to hold it, Castiel risked euthanasia.
Fortunately, there are structures adapted to accommodate these canines. THE WOLF sanctuarylocated in the state of Coloradois one of them and opened its doors at Castiel. Which received treatment in the infirmary before joining his box. Staff discovered a shy and withdrawn dog. When someone approached, he stuck to the wall, as if to put himself as far away as possible from his visitor.
A canine friend
Castiel slowly relaxed, but was still on guard with humans. On the other hand, he seemed particularly interested in other dogs: “ We deduced that he was starting to feel lonely and we wanted to find him a companion. » testified Michelle Proulxdirector of the center.

THE WOLF sanctuary began research to find him the ideal partner. Another rescue organization gave them Tenali. Castiel and they were of the same species, but their temperament differed. The little news was much more reckless than its congener, which initially restrained the latter. But the smart dog gave him the time and space he needed to feel comfortable: ” After a few days, he began to realize that she meant him no harm. asserted Michelle Proulxadding that they were playing together now.
